    Yay!

It’s quite epic! Anyway, Alex N. said I should post this in the blog, and so I guess this is a good spot. (Warning, if you wish to come to your own conclusions about the plot, without any other input, please do not read. The following is my interpretation of the plot thus far, and should not be taken as canon, or 100% right. It is also copy-pasted, so that should put it into context):

I kinda understand the summary in the instruction manual, though. Especially the “Wisdom begins anew” line. Like, in BEAT, we are ethereal, and as such, focus only on our immediate area. We drift along, aimlessly, absorbing energy to grow along. In CORE, however, we have become physical. The world expands, and our boundaries broaden. Inversely, we have discovered that the knowledge we held in BEAT no longer applies, hence the first level being “Discovery.” We must learn that our old strategies are meaningless, and that there is a whole different ruleset here. After we learn that, we begin to test this, hence the second level, “Exploration.” We learn to find new ways to push our power. Finally, the last level (Which I haven’t gotten to, but saw in the manual) “Control” Where we finally master our newfound setting (And perchance, move on?). How am I doing, so far?

    @ GenisSage - Damn dude!

  4. Takeahitjake says:

Mmmmmmmm Core is epic I’m addicted already, wish I didn’t have to work today.

  5. Cesque says:

Any ideas on an EU release date? When this comes out in the UK I’m going to buy both this and Beat! I can’t wait :D

  6. Cesque says:

Oh wait never mind, I saw the tweet.

    I hope it’s soon!

  7. Alex Neuse says:

    GenisSage pays attention!

Whoa awesome game guys, i loved beat and just downloaded this, it better then i expected, you guys really upped the sound quality and *cough* the difficulty, it took me about 5 tries to get past the first level =P

i can’t wait to see where this series goes and i will download all the games in it =D i also just noticed the other day that Beat’s final level has a little “Preview” of core in that it has the Core in the background just before you hit the boss. nice, once i get to level 3 on Core maybe i will see a preview for the next game?

  9. Ross says:

I thought the plot was about evolution.

  10. GenisSage says:

@Ross, I don’t see how my theory contradicts that, unless I am mistaken. We (or Commander Video) have evolved from Ethereal, in Beat, to Physical, in Core.

Speaking of which, the latest issue of Nintendo Power has an interview with Commander Video himself, and I think I may have found a hint as to the next step of evolution. Here is a quote, from the interview:

NP: Why are you into exploring retro-influenced video games?

The most interesting bit there, in my opinion is the line about “Move to the Beat, Learn About the Core, and Control Space.”

While the lines also reference Core’s level titles (Especially the last two. Learn about the core=Discovery/Exploration, Control Space=Control), it also references the first two game titles, along with a third. It’s possible (and this is only a theory, and with no confirmation from Alex Neuse) that we may be seeing a hint as to the next step on our Bit.Trip; Controlling Space. Bit.Trip: Space, anyone?

  11. Ross says:

I like what you’re saying. Similar to your ethereal->physical idea, my theory is that our Bit.Trip will be a journey through the history or the evolution of video games. We started with the Pong-inspired BEAT, a single axis game, now we’re at a two-axis game (I forget the name of the 2600 title that helped inspire CORE), so maybe SPACE will involve three axes?

I suspect that once we’ve reached the end of our Bit.Trip we’ll be dealing with holograms or something. Perhaps the final game with be exclusive to the Virtual Boy?

  12. Ed says:

    Freakin’ Rosicrucians!

  13. Ferret75 says:

Core is a great game guys.

Can’t wait to here about the next one! =D

  14. GenisSage says:

Haha, the Commander is a man, not a monster. A virtual boy would be torture. Still, I like that theory… quite a lot, actually.

  15. Alex Neuse says:

@GenisSage: I haven’t seen CommanderVideo’s interview in NP. Any chance you’ve got scans? I’m not a subscriber and our stores in town don’t have the mag yet!

  16. GenisSage says:

    Sorry, man… Don’t have a scanner <_<

  17. Takeahitjake says:

Hey Alex, is the next game based on Tempest!? The reason I guess this is because at the end of Control, you are circling a tube that looks like the kind of tube you’re in when playing a tube shooter similar to Tempest - and at the end of Beat, we saw a hint that ended up being the basis of Core - I’m shooting in the dark here, but Tempest seems like a sensible evolution and the background did seem to hint at it - Very very very very extremely pleased with Core and cannot wait for the next instillation! So very addicted to both Core and Beat, I love getting scores in the tens of millions, so gratifying!

  18. Alex Neuse says:

    I love Tempest. :)

  19. Takeahitjake says:

Damn you and your vague answers! XD I KNOW I’M RIGHT!

P.S. In case I haven’t told you, you pretty much created the best video game series in history.

  20. AndyTron says:

Sounds like the good Commander is getting some gears spinning.

  21. Takeahitjake says:

    ^ SEE! I’m right!

  22. Perhaps a flight game of some sort similar to Starfox. I can’t say I’m a Tempest fan, personally. And those have been done to death I think. I’d favor Asteroids even moreso.

  23. Takeahitjake says:

Waaaaahhh I completely fucked my thumb up at work today, looks like no Core for a while for me =(. I have barely gotten to play it yet even, fuck my job!

  24. ganon95 says:

its really interesting how you guys set up the “story” in these games. just recently i realised that all of this is a story and not just a bunch of random cutscenes and background graphics

like at the beginning of core commander video wants to find his…family? and he is dreaming about them in the first cutscene.

then he finds his family and they fly up im not exactly sure what that was supposed to mean

then he realises it wasn’t his family…i think…and he flies up…and once again…*crickets*

then at the end….well….i don’t know what the heck is going on at the end

Im very interested in seeing what the next game will hold. i tried to see if there was a hint at the next game like in beat but i couldn’t really tell. i saw a circular thing with a green glow around it but im not sure if that has anything to do with it

  25. ganon95 says:

oh yea i was just reading ross’s post and im thinking mayby the next game is going to have something to do with a nunchuck? because if it is about the history of video games then a nunchuck would fit in there somewhere because the n64 was one of the first systems to use a joystick.

or mayby not im not sure
