As you may (or may not) remember (or care), last year, we announced a new tradition.
And this year, check out what fell out of our mushroom bank!

MONEY!!!
This year, we managed to squirrel away $84.13!
It’s going to be a pretty good bottle of wine (or other spirits) that comes our way from this bounty! As is also the tradition, I will promise to update you when the vintage arrives, but fail to do so. In keeping with tradition, of course. ;)

Hey internet BFFs!
So, remember when we promised we’d keep you posted on the Blip Festival events as they transpired? And remember how I wanted to keep people updated blog-wise while I was on my Holiday break? Well, things didn’t turn out 100% as I’d planned…
While working on the game during the show, the internutz took a pooper scooper, so we couldn’t keep y’all updated. However, Bytejacker was there and they managed to capture three candid vids of Chris, Jason, and I working on BIT.TONIK. I think they purposefully didn’t start rolling until we were falling asleep in our chairs…
And THEN, I thought I’d get to update the blog while I stayed with family post-Blip Festival, but I came down with a crazy fever and was in no condition to do a post until TODAY when I arrived back in California, my home, where it has its very sweet sweet warmth to share so tenderly upon my skin.
And it is here, in the San Jose International Airport, where I post to this blog. This WEB LOG.
But! My cohorts were not so viciously impaired, and Jason Cirillo managed to post the game we made here!
Read the effervescent disclaimers before playing.
Also, I wanted to take tons of pictures, but my camera’s battery did a pooper scoop as well and needs to be replaced.
So, I’m back home, Chris is on his way too, and we’ll be back to work tomorrow, trying to make the recently announced BIT.TRIP RUNNER the best game in the BIT.TRIP series so far!
And last, but certainly not least, while we were away, an interview on Gamasutra with Mike Roush appeared, wherein he discusses the retro-art theme of the BIT.TRIP series. It’s a good read. Check it out.
Oh, crap, one more thing. FANS FOUND US!

Hey lovers of all things totally sweet!
Nintendo just updated their Nintendo Channel service on the Wii with a slew of new features. Among them is a more robust recommendation system for getting the word out on games that you love to love.
If you haven’t downloaded the update yet, head to the Wii Shop Channel, browse to the Nintendo Channel through the Channels menu and click the update button.

The new Nintendo Channel’s interface is vastly improved, making browsing through the massive amounts of information much easier.
Also, if you haven’t already recommended the BIT.TRIP games, feel free to do so! The more recommendations the games get, the more people will find out about the awesomeness that CommanderVideo brings into all of our lives.
Just click on the “Recommend Titles” button at the bottom of the screen, select “Recommend Wii Titles”, choose any game from the list, and start recommendin’! Games will only show up in this list if you’ve played them for more than an hour.

Uncle Alex is going to spin a tale for you.
Once upon a time, a long time ago, when your dear Uncle Alex was just a lad, he took a quest with his father, King Daddy Neuse. This quest ultimately took them to a pharmacy. (Quests in Uncle Alex’s youth often seemed like what we now know as errands). But this was no ordinary Pharmacy, oh no. This was Burch Pharmacy, on the corner of Franklin and Hennepin. In Minneapolis, Minnesota, where it gets soooooo cold that poor Uncle Alex’s toes would crystalize! And so the story begins…
I’m sure you’ve heard it a million times. At a charming little pharmacy, boy meets cheese puffs, boy falls in love, cheese puffs run out, boy falls into severe depression… And so on.
Well, let me tell you the real deal. Earl’s are, in all honesty, simultaneously the BEST and WORST cheese puffs I’ve ever eaten. When I go home to visit my family, I do so via a trip to Burch Pharmacy where I stock up with fortifications of Earl’s both for my visit and for my return home where I rain Earl’s down upon my friends like a cheese-infused pied piper. Only instead of running rats out of town, I’m bringing the rats back! In cheese puff form!
Here is a drawing (since Earl’s cannot be photographed once the bag is open–they tend to disappear faster than they can be documented on film).
There are a few important things to note about this rendering of the typical Earl’s Cheese Puff.
And yeah, we’re giving a Party Size bag away in our facebook contest. Future winner, consider yourself EXTREMELY lucky.
Oh, and what do Earl’s have to do with video games? Well, my buddy Mike Roska (who works over at MGI Racing) and I ate a whole Party Size bag in one sitting while playing Ninja Gaiden on the Xbox. I am convinced that it was the POWER OF EARL’S that made beating that insanely difficult game possible. (I also believe that it was the POWER OF EARL’S that had me glued to the toilet for the better part of the next day). Word to the wise, eat not an entire bag in one sitting, for in doing so, suffer the wrath of the angry ass you will. Earl’s are best shared with friends.

So, yeah, Earl’s. They’re great. You want them. I want them. We all want them.

Hey party people! The team at Gaijin Games is just full of surprises, and this time it’s a massive change to our logo!
Since starting up this joint, we’ve been trying to find the right logo to represent us and just last week (and after heated debates, I may add), we have finally found it.
The new logo is the result of a collaboration between the team at Gaijin Games and the capable hands of Scott Lindberg over at Sllab Studios.
A long-time friend and creative partner to Alex Neuse, Scott graciously lent his expertise in the Graphic Design field to help us realize our goals for a striking visual identity.
So, say goodbye to the old…
…And hello to the new!
See it on your TV soon, with the release of our first game BIT.TRIP BEAT!

There’s something I have to get off my chest. Everything you’ve suspected is true. I spend almost all my time locked in a tiny room with two other men—one older and more experienced, and one young and virile.
Today marks the official beginning of a beautiful union linking three men in a trinity of rad. Well, at least that’s what I hope gamers will think after they play our first game.
I am joined today by Mike Roush and Chris Osborn.
Now I know what you’re thinking…
“But Alex, you HATE those guys!”
As much as that may be true, and as much as I talk about them behind their backs—constantly, I can’t knock talent. And these guys are some of the most talented industry peeps I’ve met. In fact, I am honored that they’ve decided to join me on this adventure.
Hop over to the Team Bios page for more info on my new BFFs.

So, the first week is nearing its end, and even though I’ve been sticking to my principles of not working insane hours, I am worn OUT.
We’ve done a lot of work figuring out how to make money while making games while working reasonable hours while making reasonable wages while remaining happy while having creative freedom, and if the stars align, every single thing we’ve planned should happen as expected.
And why shouldn’t it? Isn’t that the way the world works?
Part of the planning, of course, is figuring out how we’re going to pay for all of this—especially our start-up costs. There are lots of options for an independent video game studio, and we’re looking into all of them. Something will work out, I’m sure.
To that end, we’ve decided to launch a donation page on our website! I figure, that’s within our power to do without any outside help, so we may as well do it. If you know of anyone who would like to donate to our cause, let them know that any amount helps. On the donation page, you can find more information on how it works.
Now that the shameless plug for money is over, I will gladly conclude this update with a few pictures taken at our studio.

This is my I-beam of toys. Note my Derek Flippo doll on the far right in front of the ‘M’ on the license plate.
